About Eau ClaireThe city of Eau Claire (French for "Clear Water"), strategically located at the confluence of the Eau Claire and Chippewa Rivers, began as a lumbering settlement during the 1840's. Eau Claire County was then the site of one of the largest stands of white pine in North America. Today, the population of the Eau Claire Metropolitan Area (Eau Claire and Chippewa Counties) is approximately 142,500. It is surrounded by fertile agricultural land, the last of the great pine forests and scenic lakes and rivers. Area InformationArea SchoolsOther Area LinksEau Claire Parks and Recreation
